The best, most authentic Russian piroshki you can find. Nothing like the pre-cooked frozen oval bun you can get all over town.

Good selection of liquors. Best for classic drinks—no fancy drink menu. Friendly bartenders. Relatively cheap prices. Best to go early on a weekday, it gets packed by 5:00. Pretty much the best place to drink in the Financial District.

Excellent charcutterie among an overall great menu. A good selection of specialty cocktails—they make a nice smooth Manhattan.

Fond memories of this place, first visited in 1998, may influence my opinion that the atmosphere there is quintessential golden-age New York. My idea of a "real" diner as opposed to the 50s "Happy Days" style. A broad selection of good solid comfort food.

My favorite margarita in terms of how it makes you feel—full of joy. The chicken mole enchiladas (Enchiladas Veracruzanas) is great, a perfect pairing with the margarita, and is the only thing worth ordering on the menu aside from guacamole & chips.

When I lived 3 blocks from this place I ate there 2-3 times a week. I wouldn't travel long distance to go there, but if you're in the neighborhood it's highly recommended. Fish Tacos are recommended. Carnitas and Chile Relleno are also good if greasy. Also, it's cheap!

Best Japanese curry in San Francisco. Everyone working there looks over 50--this is your Japanese Grandma's curry. Made to order so once you get through the long line expect to wait another 15 mins before your food is ready. I've had some issues with so-so quality pork (a bit dry), but the curry itself is first class.
