Absolutely awesome. Beautiful room (sort of what I imagine my fantasy home bar to look like), really well conceived tiki-esque drinks (the Jet Pilot in particular is wonderful).

Known for having one of Portland's best burgers.

Reportedly good Chinese, especially soup dumplings. Always on the lookout for good places uptown.

Interesting looking Thai place by the people behind Pok Pok.

New restaurant/cocktail bar from the people behind Brooklyn Social.

Looks like a great beer bar. Dog friendly too!

    New higher-end-but-casual modern Mexican place.

Looks like a hip new Denver restaurant with a great burger according to A Hamburger Today.

Sounds like a great fast food-style burger place that does good green chile burgers, as well as burgers made with some other adventurous meats (game and so forth). (via A Hamburger Today)

NYC taqueria opened by two guys from Berkeley. Reportedly an homage to Berkeley/SF's Gordo taquerias.

Awesome, awesome new place from the guy who used to be the butcher at Marlow & Daughters. Also sells lots of fancy groceries, kitchen stuff, and (a godsend to my new hobby) home brewing equipment and supplies.

Hawaiian/Mexican place on Lake Austin. From the same owner as the excellent Chuy's Mexican chain. The lady who runs the Savage Shrimp Truck on Kauai told me about this place (she's originally from Texas).

Crazy charcoal grilling restaurant in Northern Spain. My friends Dan & Kathryn went here and it sounds like an amazing, over the top eating experience. I really need to go.

New restaurant in Eastern Williamsburg from the same people behind Williamsburg favorite M Shanghai. Haven't had it yet, but their dumplings are supposed to be excellent.

Sign-less sushi place on the Lower East Side that has the additional curiosity of a white, 23 year old chef. Supposedly really good.

First coffee place in New York with a Slayer espresso machine.

Looks like it has a good green chile burger (via A Hamburger Today).

I'm not normally a huge ramen fan, but their fried chicken ramen made me a believer.

I can verify that the corned beef sandwich here is amazing.

Long wait, overpriced and uninspired fare, drinks that are way too sweet, and the promised atmosphere (at least from where we were sitting) was kind of a let down. Service was very good though.

Great spot for brunch! Their lunch-ier food is a bit meh, but the more breakfast-ey stuff is great. Lattes were good, although I found my cappucino was a bit overly foamey--the milk was like a sponge on top. All in all though, I really like the place. Would make a good stop on the way over to Waimea.

Decent little grocery store. Didn't get around to trying the plate lunches, though, since I was so obsessed with Koloa Fish Market.

Definitely on my list of favorite bars now. For what it is (a tropical dive with mai tais and live music), it's fantastic. I hear the food is good too, although I didn't try any. I went twice and both times it had a fun, convivial atmosphere with a lot of interesting characters hanging around.

Has fantastic sliders, according to A Hamburger Today.

Korean place that just started doing brunch. Curious to try their kimchee bloody marys.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Coffee place right now, soon to be opening as a restaurant. Probable future hipster hot spot.

Fancy cocktails, oysters, and what sounds like a good burger. Looks like the Walter Foods of Philly.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Absolutely awesome. The "Local Boy" (teriyaki with pineapple and cheddar cheese) is one unique and delicious specimen of a burger. Truly the In-N-Out or Shake Shack of Kauai.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Probably the best meal I've had in Kauai so far. Had a really great ahi steak with wasabi cream sauce, and my dad had a delicious box of ahi poke. Everything was cheap, fresh, and delicious.

According to A Hamburger Today, has a fantastic burger. Based on the photos, it does indeed look awesome.

Looks like a good place for both coffee and breakfast.

New cocktail place from the Bourbon & Branch people. Maybe it's guilt by association with the Financial District DBs that frequent the place (one actually interrupted my two female friends and I--presumably for a pickup attempt--but, having absolutely no follow up, just made things extremely awkward for 5 minutes). Maybe it's just cocktail fatigue. Or maybe it's just NYC snobbery. Whatever it is, I found myself unimpressed with the place. Service was slow, which is not exactly a surprise given that they're trying to run a bar with a B&B-size menu full of drinks like gin ... New cocktail place from the Bourbon & Branch people. Service was slow, which is not exactly a surprise given that they're trying to run a bar with a B&B-size menu full of drinks like gin fizzes for a traditional, crowded after work kind of scene. I've sampled a number of drinks from the tome-like menu, but so far not found anything I thought was special. All in all, it feels like the depressing future of the current cocktail renaissance as it goes mainstream.

Tried the chicken and waffles for lunch, and found them to be top notch. Not quite in the league of, say, Buttermilk Channel in Brooklyn, but very good.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Ate here last time I was in SF, and found that it actually exceeded my expectations. Very good pasta and pizza in the Delfina mold.

    Another noted plate lunch destination.

Taqueria that appears to come highly recommended. Opened by Bar Acuda alum.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Looks like a good source of fresh fish tacos and burritos.

Spanish tapas place from former SF chef. Looks like one of the better restaurants on Kauai.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Reputed to have very good poke.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Sounds like this lunchwagon has some interesting Hawaiian foods--including "taro hummus." Also a good source of plate lunches, apparently.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Another touristy but fun looking bar/restaurant really close to where I'm staying.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Sounds like a good place to get a picnic lunch on the way to the lighthouse.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Looks like a decent, if touristy, place for cocktails and dinner.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Good Hawaiian-influenced hot dogs with garlic sauce and fruit relishes (banana, mango, coconut, etc.). My only complaint would be that they're a bit "bread-ey"--the dogs are embedded in a bun that is way bigger than the dog itself.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

    Good seafood for lunch apparently.

  • 2 years, 4 months ago

Interested in trying the teriyaki burgers here.
