Located just north of Downtown Tempe, it's like moving from urban to bum fuck no where. Or it would be if you weren't surrounded on all sides by urban sprawl for 50 miles in every direction.

That said, it's one of my favorite quick getaway. I really enjoy hiking one of the less popular peaks and having spring time picnics.

Stay away on the weekends and friday afternoon though, it's crowded with kids and parents and teachers and such; they kill the magic.
