I only did takeout because I was in a hurry, but man was I impressed. Definitely the most beautiful carnitas I've ever seen: a nice, fatty-but-crispy hunk of pork shoulder served with corn tortillas and a delicious sauce (I'm thinking it must be tomatillo). In fact, I think the sauce kind of made it for me. Instantly became one of my favorite SF restaurants.

Fortunately for me, I've never had to deal with a long wait at Nopalito, so that's improved my experience a lot over Ryan's :). In any case, the food here is delicious and if you're dining in, order a Tecate. Trust me, you'll thank me for it later.

Food was excellent. Only restaurant I've found that serves huitlacoche, which automatically kicked it up a notch in my book. I got a huitlacoche quesadilla and birria, a spicy goat stew. Both were quite good. Others got more traditional recipies – chicken mole, tamales and pork carnitas. I tried the mole and carnitas and would easily say both were some of the best I've ever had.

The wait for both a table and the food was horrendous, though. Be prepared to spend 4 hours here. I appreciate that they want to keep everything traditional, but I really wish they ... From the same folks that bring us Nopa, comes Nopalito.
“A vibrant neighborhood Mexican kitchen, celebrating the traditional cookery of Mexico and utilizing our philosophy of purchasing local, organic and sustainable ingredients.”
